69 Car Pile Up Shuts Down I64
An accident on i64 involving more than 65 cars has shut down a stretch of Virginia’s interstate.
Currently all lanes eastbound near Williamsburg, VA are closed per the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The Virginia Department of Transportation Hampton Roads stated the crash occurred at the Queens Creek bridge before Camp Peary, exit 238 at 7:51am. Traffic is being detoured to Route 199 at exit 242.

Conditions on the road were foggy and icy when the incident occurred according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
This happened right before 8 a.m. this morning, Sunday December 22nd 2019.
Officials are currently investigating the cause of the crash while rerouting traffic. No charges have been filed as investigations into the multiple car pile up are still ongoing.
Officials have stated at least 51 people were transported to hospitals in the area. VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Ricerside Doctors’ Hospital in Williamsburg, and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center all received patients.
Riverside Regional Medical Center is currently seeing 24 people from the crash.
A spokesperson from the hospital stated one patient has is in serious condition, five sustained moderate injuries, and 18 patients with minor injuries.
